The most obvious way to create a sphere is sketch a half circle and use the revolve feature to create the sphere. However, it turns out that it’s possible to turn a cube into a sphere using the fillet tool!

This model was created using only surface body features and then is turned into a solid using a thicken command. A Boundary Surface feature uses two sketches in one direction to create the desired geometry. An Outside edge is created using offset entities to ensure that the overall shape can be modified and still maintain uniform wall thickness. The surface-knit feature "stitches up" four faces (two surface bodies) into one surface body. The thicken command adds thickness to the inside of the surface.

This cover plate is an example of a part created without using any solid body features. The Upper Profile is a spline for continuous curvature. A projected curve feature is used to create two sketches to create the desired 3D geometry. The Boundary Surface feature is defined in both directions. The Surface Knit feature merges the four surfaces bodies into one by "stitching" them together. Cosmetic fillets are used to ensure no sharp edges. The Thicken command creates a solid body from surface bodies.

The rim is a Revolved Thin Feature (Thin is an open section). This models demonstrates Hybrid Modeling(use of both solid and surface bodies to create geometry). The rim and hub are solid bodies. The spokes and center piece are surface bodies that will be turned into a solid and all three bodies will be combined into one solid.

Description
A weldment is an object made up of several parts welded together. SolidWorks represents this model as a multibody solid NOT as an assembly.This rectangular tubing element was created as a separate group from the port vert because it was not parallel or touching the port vert element. Also, all four rungs could have been made as one group if they were the same size because parallel segments can be grouped together. But this is not the case here.

All weldments need a 2D or 3D sketch which “acts” like a sweep path. The sweep profile is selected from a list and does not need to be sketched every time.A weldment is an object made up of several parts welded together. SOLIDWORKS represent this model as multi-body solid, not as an assembly.
